Ashby publishes a price and Greenhouse does not, so an Ashby vs Greenhouse pricing comparison starts lopsided. Ashby's Foundations plan, for companies of up to 100 employees, costs $300 to $900 a month by company size, or $3,240 to $9,720 a year with the 10 percent annual discount, and it is not priced per seat. Greenhouse prints no number for any of its three plans, Core, Plus and Pro, and says the price depends on the plan, your hiring volume, your organizational complexity and the features you need. On features the gap runs the other way in places: Ashby Foundations includes candidate email sequences and contact lookups, which Greenhouse leaves out of Core, while Greenhouse Core includes SSO and an AI notetaker that Ashby charges extra for.
Both vendors were read at source on October 2, 2026. Ashby at ashbyhq.com/pricing, including the price table inside the page code and the FAQ answers. Greenhouse at greenhouse.com/pricing, including its full plan comparison and pricing FAQ; the page carries no currency symbol at all. Every fact below comes from those two pages, and where we infer something we say so.

Is Ashby cheaper than Greenhouse?
Below 100 employees, you can only answer half of that question from public information. The Ashby half is exact. A 20 person company pays $400 a month, or $4,320 a year on an annual commitment. A 60 person company pays $700, or $7,560 a year. Those numbers include the ATS, sourcing, the candidate CRM, scheduling and analytics, because Ashby's FAQ says it charges one price for the whole platform rather than by module.
The Greenhouse half is a quote. Greenhouse's FAQ answers "How much does Greenhouse cost?" by listing what influences the price and nothing else. Several comparison pages on the first page of results print a Greenhouse starting range, usually somewhere between $6,000 and $10,000 a year for a small team, and attribute it to practitioner estimates. We could not trace any of those figures to Greenhouse, so we do not publish one. What you can say with confidence is that Ashby Foundations sets a public ceiling of $9,720 a year for a company of up to 100 people, and any Greenhouse quote for the same company can be held against it.
One reported data point is worth knowing as a negotiating fact rather than a price: buyers on forums describe getting Greenhouse quotes both well above and well below Ashby for the same headcount. That is what quote-only pricing produces. The quote depends on how much leverage you bring, and a published competitor price is the cheapest leverage there is.
What Greenhouse Core leaves out that Ashby Foundations includes
This is the part that changes the real comparison. Greenhouse's plan table marks six sourcing and CRM rows as excluded from Core and included from Plus: talent discovery, contact lookups, email automation, texting, featured internal job posts and multi-brand job boards. Greenhouse's own Plus card lists "Greenhouse Sourcing Automation" and texting as what Plus adds. If you want to run automated candidate outreach inside Greenhouse, you are buying Plus.
Ashby puts all of that in Foundations. Its plan comparison checks automated multi-touch sequences across email and LinkedIn stages, shared sequences with bulk send, the sourcing Chrome extension, AI outreach personalization, AI assisted reply tracking and 200 email lookups a month on the cheapest plan. Auto-reject rules are on Foundations too; Greenhouse puts auto-reject and auto-advance on Plus.
It is not one sided. Greenhouse Core includes SSO, which costs $100 a month on Ashby Foundations, or $1,200 a year. Greenhouse Core includes an AI notetaker; Ashby sells its notetaker as a paid add-on on every plan. Greenhouse also includes e-signature, scheduling links, self scheduling and custom reports and dashboards on Core, where Ashby reserves custom saved reports and custom dashboards for Plus. If your company needs SSO on day one and lives in reports, the effective Ashby price is $1,200 a year higher than the table suggests.
How each vendor builds the quote
Ashby prices startups by the size of the organization at the point of purchase, in five bands: 1 to 10 employees, 11 to 25, 26 to 50, 51 to 75 and 76 to 100. Adding hiring managers or recruiters does not change the price. Growing does. Ashby reassesses startup pricing every year, so a company that crosses a band line moves up at renewal, and one that crosses 100 employees leaves the published table for a Plus quote based on company size, usage and commitment. The detail, including the per employee cost inside each band, is on our Ashby pricing page.
Greenhouse says its price is shaped by the plan you choose, your hiring volume and organizational complexity, and the capabilities your workflows require. That is a description of a quote, not a meter. In practice it means two companies of the same size can pay very different amounts, and that the price will move if your hiring plan does. Ask the rep to write the metric into the order form, along with the year two price.
Either way, the contract is a procurement event. If your finance team will not release a vendor payment without an approved PO, sort that out before the quote expires; a lightweight purchase order software setup keeps the approval from stalling the signature.
Ashby vs Greenhouse for a startup under 100 employees
For a company that wants candidate outreach and a working ATS on one bill, Ashby is the lower risk buy on price because you know the number before the first call. At 11 to 25 employees, $4,320 a year buys sequences, sourcing and scheduling. Greenhouse can match the feature set only from Plus, at a price you will not see until a rep sends it.
Greenhouse earns its place when the priority is a mature, structured hiring process with governance from the start: SSO and an AI notetaker included on Core, and Pro adding resume anonymization, application limits, an audit log, a developer sandbox and unlimited CRM events. Larger companies that already run Greenhouse also have a middle path. Ashby sells Ashby Analytics on top of Greenhouse or Lever for companies over 100 employees, priced on usage, so you can buy the reporting without migrating the ATS. And if you do switch, Ashby says its API migration from Greenhouse or Lever usually takes a day or two.
Why most Ashby vs Greenhouse pages get the price wrong
Three errors repeat across the comparison pages that rank today. The first is the Ashby floor. Nearly every page says Ashby starts at $400 a month. That is the default the pricing page loads with, the 11 to 25 employee band on monthly billing. The real floor is $300 a month for 1 to 10 employees, and $270 a month on an annual commitment.
The second is a per seat price for Ashby. Several pages quote a dollar figure per elevated seat. It does not appear on Ashby's pricing page, and Ashby's FAQ says startup pricing is "not on a seat or talent team basis." The third is presenting averages from procurement databases as list prices. A $20,000 average Ashby contract is a real statistic about mostly larger companies' negotiated deals. It tells a 30 person startup almost nothing about its own bill, which Ashby publishes.
Where outreach fits once the ATS is chosen
Both vendors can email candidates, Ashby from Foundations and Greenhouse from Plus. So for a company hiring its own staff, buying a separate tool for candidate sequences is usually paying twice. The outreach gap is elsewhere. A startup on either ATS still has a founder or a first sales hire emailing buyers, and neither ATS is built to run that pipeline. A recruiting agency selling to companies that hire on Ashby or Greenhouse needs outreach to hiring managers, not candidates.
That is the job ColdOutreach does. It researches each prospect before it writes, drafts a short sequence in your voice and stops the moment someone replies, from $24 a month on annual billing for the whole workspace. The composer at the top of this page shows what it writes for a real prospect. Founders can start from outreach for founders, and agencies from the recruitment outreach tool page.
If you are still shortlisting, our recruiting software pricing comparison puts eighteen vendors in one table with the date each price was read, including the other company-priced ATS tools: Workable pricing at $299 a month for up to 20 employees and Teamtailor pricing, which is quote only like Greenhouse. For two quote-only vendors head to head, see Recruitee vs Teamtailor pricing.
